I'm going through my old models, there's some nice stuff there, like this bridge which is based on a real bridge...
It's in fact based on a bridge here in Ghent, Belgium. But I duplicated it a few times to turn it into a larger piece. Interestingly, that real bridge was recently featured in a movie starring Adrien Brody and Rutger Hauer, "Emperor". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2378179/
We went to have a look at the set, it looked very interesting.
The robot on top is also an old model I never used. It uses a metal shader. Can you tell that I don't like UV unwrapping? It's necessary, in order to make something every day, to find ways that are faster, like blended box mapping and clever shaders. It really speeds up the workflow a ridicilous amount. I feel like the habit of being fast is a good one for a big project like this where time is very limited.
Although these are visual tests, I feel like it's a good way to "find" the look of the project in an organic way. I'm not saying the end backgrounds will be 3D rendered, but it helps me think visually "out loud". They can still serve for the basis for a beautiful 2D paint over.
